Why We Built This Site
Missouri gives the public broad access to many government records through the Sunshine Law and court access rules, but Clay County records are not held by one office. The Circuit Clerk supports Circuit Court case files at the James S. Rooney Justice Center. The Recorder of Deeds handles marriage licenses and recorded instruments at the Clay County Administration building. The Sheriff's Office manages detention listings, most-wanted information, and law-enforcement record requests. County administrative records use the county custodian process.
Clay County also has local details that matter. The main court is the Circuit Court, not a district court. Probate is a division of the Circuit Court. Municipal courts are municipal divisions for city ordinance and traffic matters. Those distinctions shape where a person searches, which office can issue a copy, and whether an online result is enough.
